KAPIKACCHU POWDER (Kamadhenu Ayurveda) Sanskrit Name: Kapikacchu, Atmagupta, Vanari English Name: Cowhage Botanical Name: Mucuna Pruriens Part Used: Seed Ayurvedic Energetics: V- P= K The seeds of this plant are one of the best tonics and aphrodisiacs to the reproductive system, male or female. They increase sexual energy, strengthen the reproductive organs and through them vitalize our entire system. They are commonly used with Amalaki, Ashwagandha, Shatavari, Bala, Vidari, Gokshura and other tonics to make various pills and herbal jellies. While Kapikacchu is one of the more expensive Ayurvedic herbal tonics, it is still far less expensive than ginseng and many other herbal tonics. A not unpleasant tasting bean, Kapikacchu can be cooked in rice as a wonderful herbal food.
One teaspoon of the seeds boiled in one cup of water stimulates sexual energy and prevents premature ejaculation. For bronchial asthma, one-half teaspoon of the powder along with a teaspoon of ghee serves as a good bronchodilator.
Kapikacchu has recently been found to be a natural source of L-dopa, used to treat Parkinsons disease. Several Ayurvedic companies in India use an extract of the herb for this purpose. It can be taken as a regular herbal food, one to two teaspoons a day, for Parkisons and similar diseases of nerve weakness.
